Reaching Out
At Farmington UMC we desire to help ordinary people become spiritually thriving servants of Christ for the sake of the world. Jesus' last words on earth (found in Acts 1:8) command us to be His witnesses at local, regional and global levels. We, as a church, are seeking to impact the world around us in our community, for our community, and with our community.
Local:
- Victor/Farmington Food Cupboard support
- Food pantry located at the church
- Racetrack Ministry
- W.O.W Ministry - Working Outside the Walls
- On a monthly basis our church reaches out to the community to assist with projects for those who need some extra help with their lawns, homes, etc. If you are in need of helping hands, please contact the Outreach Director, Tammy Figler.
- Giving Garden
- With some additional land owned by the church, FUMC has a vegetable garden that will assist in providing fresh vegetables to those in need in our community.
- Free exercise classes Mondays and Wednesdays at 5:45 p.m. and Saturday mornings at 8:00 a.m. Classes are taught by Tammy Figler, personal trainer and fitness instructor with 15 years experience. Each workout is a total body conditioning class designed to follow the guidelines of the American College of Sports Medicine to benefit the cardiovascular, strength, and flexibility requirements for the average healthy man or woman on a weekly basis.
These classes are free. You will need to bring your own equipment and a desire to work hard. This is not a beginner class, although modifications can be made for everyone willing to get fit from the bottom up. If you have any questions or need additional information, contact Tammy Figler at tammyfigler@rochester.rr.com.
- Providing a Dollars for Scholars scholarship to a Victor student who excels in giving back to their community.
Regional:
- FUMC has partnered with Grace United Methodist Church, in Rochester, NY, to include joint worship services, joint prayer support, help with free weekly breakfasts, Holiday dinners for the community around GUMC and providing supplies for GUMC's Wares & Wearables store.
Global:
- Last Christmas, FUMC sponsored a fund-raising event to provide over $11,000 in farm animals and needed supplies to people overseas.
- FUMC is currently collecting coins to fund a fresh water well in Africa. Fresh water in America is like a "drop in the bucket". Therefore, we challenge those who use water to drop a few coins in our well to provide fresh water to those who don't have it.
- Supporting missionaries Wayne & Pam Wideman in Swaziland and Suellen Black in Gambia.
- Sponsoring short-term missionaries
- Last year we sponsored three of our teens to Brazil for a three week mission on the Amazon River.
- Currently we have several missionaries who will be traveling to Africa and Tennessee to use their God-given gifts and talents to aid others.
Our small groups and teen programs are consistently reaching out with projects to serve our local community, Grace UMC, and World Vision.
If you see a need or have a need, please contact our Outreach Director, Tammy Figler (outreach@farmingtonumc.com), to discuss how FUMC might be able to assist you.
